The Spoons lead guitarist, singer and primary songwriter, Gord Deppe, has published SpoonFed: My Life With The Spoons, an autobiography and history of the band. In the book, Deppe writes about his early life moving from Vancouver to Germany, with his family eventually returning to Canada and settling 45 minutes outside of Toronto in the sleepy suburb of Burlington, Ontario. Deppe goes on to detail the band’s formation and the crafting of their first album, Stick Figure Neighbourhood, recorded in 1981 by Daniel Lanois at Grant Avenue Studios in Hamilton and released on Ready Records. The book is an essential read for any Spoons fan and an important work for anyone with an interest in modern Canadian music history and the rise of new wave in the 1980s.
