Ready Records is pleased to announce the re-release of the Talk’s Cheap EP from The Demics and Colin Linden’s Live album. Below is a little history on both artists and albums.
Originally formed in London, Ontario in 1977, the Demics consisted of vocalist Keith Whittaker, guitarist Rob Brent, bassist Iain Atkinson-Staines and drummer J. D. Weatherstone. Five songs were recorded by engineer Kevin Doyle at South West studios in London, Ontario and an EP was released in the fall of 1978. This EP, entitled “Talk’s Cheap” created the birth of Ready Records. The first single, “New York City” became the band’s breakthrough hit on CFNY “the spirit of radio” in 1979 thanks to program director David Marsden. In 1996, “New York City” was named the greatest Canadian song of all time in a reader poll published by the music magazine Chart.
Colin Linden Live!, was recorded at the now defunct Larry’s Hideaway in Toronto, Ontario in August 1980. Colin Linden was then only twenty years old !! As one-third of Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, a solo artist, a sideman and as a producer of artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Colin James and Lucinda Williams, Colin Linden has established himself as one of the treasures of North American roots music. Originally released on Ready Records in 1981 this album made enough noise to attract famed New York impresario Sid Bernstein to offer Linden a management deal.
Both Demics – Talks Cheap and Colin Linden – Live! are now available for purchase on Bandcamp.
